Hugo Hucke, 82, Cherokee, formerly of Aurelia, Iowa, died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2008, at Countryside Estates Nursing Home in Cherokee, where he had been a resident for two weeks.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Aurelia, with Pastor Missy Brown officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Aurelia. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia.

Hugo Otto Hucke was born March 29, 1926, on a farm near Lawton, Iowa, the son of Hugo A. and Bertha (Woldt) Hucke. He attended school in Lawton and received his GED in 1996. He was in the U.S. Army Reserves for six years. Hugo ran a milk truck out of Sioux City, and worked for Allis Chalmers in Sioux City for three years.

On March 4, 1951, Hugo married Lucille Ruth Will in Sioux City. In 1953, they moved to her family's farm near Aurelia. Hugo farmed until he suffered a heart attack on Oct. 9, 1997. Lucille died Sept. 9, 2000. Hugo married Lila Jones at First United Methodist Church in Aurelia on Nov. 20, 2004. They lived in Cherokee.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Aurelia, and was a lifetime member of the Knights of Pythius. He was involved with doing church mission work, and had traveled to Antigua, Jamaica, Costa Rica, and three times to Mexico. In 1992, he was also involved with Habitat for Humanity, working on homes in Des Moines, Ames and Sioux City. He enjoyed woodworking, and giving people a bad time.

Survivors include his wife, Lila of Cherokee; three children, Michele "Shelly" and her husband, Dr. Brian Dubes of Lenoir City, Tenn., Tom Hucke of Aurelia, and Marsha Hucke of Iowa City, Iowa; four grandchildren, Ryan and his wife, Cheri Dubes of Scottsdale, Ariz., Nathan Dubes of Mesa, Ariz., Patricia "Trish" Dubes of Nashville, Tenn., and Bryce Dubes of Lenoir City, Tenn.; and three great-grandchildren, William, Lauren and Emily Dubes. Also surviving are two stepchildren, Carol Walters of Cherokee, and Scott and his wife, Erin Jones of Altoona, Iowa; four stepgrandchildren, Stephanie Mongan of Cherokee, Tasha and Chris Mouw of Doon, Iowa, Jeremy Walters of Spencer, Iowa, and Weston Jones of Altoona, Iowa; four great-stepgrandchildren, Skyler and Dalton Mongan and Collin and Abigail Mouw; and other relatives and friends.

Preceding Hugo in death were his parents; his wife, Lucille; a brother, Alvin Hucke; three sisters, Marie DeLaughter, Leona Quinn and Alvina Larsen; and a great-stepgrandson, Alec Mouw.

A memorial fund has been established.
