ALVINA LEWIS

Memorial services for Alvina Lewis, 92, of Aurelia, will be Wednesday, October 29, 2008, at 10:30 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Aurelia, with Pastor Missy Brown officiating. Internment will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Aurelia. Visitation will be at the church one-half hour prior to the service. The Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia is in charge of arrangements.

Alvina Irene Otten was born September 6, 1916 in Peterson, Iowa, the daughter of Howard and Mary Otten. She attended and graduated from the Highview School where she was an avid basketball player. On August 16, 1934, Alvina married James Ray Lewis at the Congregational Church parsonage in Aurelia. The couple farmed in the Aurelia area for 44 years until moving into town in 1978. Alvina also worked as a nurse’s aide at MHI in Cherokee and at Sunset Knoll Retirement Home in Aurelia for many years. Alvina was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Aurelia for more than 60 years, was a member of the Aurelia Dance Group, and the Aurelia 500 Club. She enjoyed playing cards, cooking, gardening, and she loved her children.

Alvina died Sunday, October 26, 2008 at the Sunset Knoll Nursing and Rehab Center in Aurelia where she had been a resident since December 30, 2003.

Preceding Alvina in death were her parents, her husband James on September 2, 2002, one grandson, Colton Evan Eason, and three brothers, Alvin (Red), Omer, and Chet Otten.

Survivors are her four children: Mardell Bumann of Fayetteville, NC, Jerry Lewis of Aurelia, Gary and his wife Bonnie Lewis of Aurelia, and Vicki and her husband Dean Regennitter of Aurelia. Also surviving are ten grandchildren, Lynn and her husband Bob Bean of Fayetteville, NC, Brian and his wife Emily Bumann of Davidson, NC, Robert Lewis of Aurelia, Michael and his wife Jennifer Lewis of Osage, Chad and his wife Mindy Lewis of Larrabee, Carolyn and her husband Kordell Kruse of Aurelia, Kent and his wife Becky Lewis of Aurelia, Kris Wegner and her fiancé Phil Sargent of Muscatine, IA, Dawn and her husband Thad Eason of Roca, NE, and Kayla and her husband Derek Wigand of Correctionville, fifteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, and nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
