Rose Mongan

Rose Mongan, 68, of Cherokee, Iowa, died Monday October 27, 2008 in the Country Side Estates following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday October 31, 2008 at the Greenwood Funeral Home, Cherokee, Iowa. Rev. Magrey deVega will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Cherokee, Iowa. Visitation will be held Thursday from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Greenwood Funeral Home. Rose was born on April 18, 1940 in Marcus, Iowa to Aage and Marcella (Apel) Miller. She attended high school in Marcus, Iowa, graduating in 1959. On June 2, 1962 she married John Mongan in Marcus, Iowa. He preceded her in death on January 12, 1991. Rose worked for many years at the Cherokee Mental Health Institute in the kitchen and also laundering department. She later owned and operated Mongan Cherokee Decorating with her husband, John. Rose umpired baseball and softball games, she liked to play recreation league volleyball, and liked to bowl. She also enjoyed hunting and fishing with her husband John and their Brittany Spaniels.

She is survived by a brother, Milo Miller of Marcus, IA; two sisters, Darlene Bennett of Waterbury, NE; Ruth Edwards and her husband, Butch, of Primghar, IA; 10 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and one brother, Aage Miller Jr.
