Raymond Glassmaker, 85, of Cleghorn entered into eternal life on Thursday Sept. 25, 2008, at Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee, Iowa, following a brief illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee, with the Revs. Armand Bertrand and Gene Sitzmann officiating. Burial will be in Maryhill Visitation Cemetery, rural Cherokee. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, with a Scripture service at 7 p.m., followed by a 7:30 p.m. rosary at Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee. Raymond was born on Feb. 27, 1923, on the family farm, south of Cleghorn in Cherokee County to William and Frances (Zimmer) Glassmaker. He lived his entire life on this farm. Ray attended Maryhill Elementary School and graduated from Cleghorn High School in 1941. He married Helen Steichen on May 2, 1944, in Remsen, Iowa.

Ray had four loves in his life; his faith, his family, his farm and football, especially Notre Dame football.

Ray is survived by his loving wife of 64 years; 13 children, Phyllis Walton, and her husband, Robert of King City, Calif., Diane Henke and her husband, Doug of Washta, Iowa, Tom Glassmaker of Cleghorn, Bill Glassmaker and his wife, Violet of Cherokee, Joe Glassmaker and his wife, Pat of Marcus, Iowa, Bob Glassmaker and his wife, Sherill of Marcus, Joan Glassmaker of Cleghorn, Michelle Moret and her husband, Rich of South Sioux City, Janet Kruse and her husband, Mike of Sioux City, Dave Glassmaker and his wife, Michelle of Cherokee, Pete Glassmaker of South Sioux City, Christine Wankum and her husband, Jamie of McCook Lake, S.D., and Elizabeth Mallory and her husband, Marc of South Sioux City; 26 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two foster grandchildren; a son-in-law, Tom Dickes; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved daughter, Mary (2000); three brothers, John, Henry and Frank; and four sisters, Josie, Lizzie, Hilda and Dolores.
