David M. Lee, 60, of Marcus passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008, at Cherokee Villa Nursing Home in Cherokee, Iowa, following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Earnest-Johnson Funeral Home in Marcus, with the Rev. Gary McDonough and Pastor Tom Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Marcus-Amherst Cemetery, with military honors. Visitation will be 2 p.m. Sunday, with the family present 5 to 7 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. David Michael Lee was born in Kissimmee, Fla., on Nov. 20, 1947, the son of Francis Oliver and Mary Louise (Blackwell) Lee. He graduated from Russell High School in East Point, Ga. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on Nov. 12, 1969, at Atlanta. David served overseas during the Vietnam War in West Germany and Vietnam as a medic. He served in a military hospital and flew with the medevac choppers until earning his honorable discharge on June 1, 1973, having attained the rank of staff sergeant. After the war, David made his home in Atlanta, Panama City, Fla., and Nashville, Tenn. He drove an over-the-road truck and charter buses. David drove buses for many bands and tour groups throughout the years.

David would later move to Marcus, Iowa. He drove over-the-road for Van Wyk Trucking. He also trucked milk from local dairy farms to Omaha. His health would force him to stop trucking. During his remission from cancer, David operated a bus for the Siouxland Regional Transit System.

He attended Grace United Methodist Church in Marcus, and First Church of Christ in Cherokee. He was past commander of the Treptow American Legion Post 230 in Cherokee. He was also the vice president of Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 888.

He is survived by his daughter, Karen Tere Lee of Remsen, Iowa; his mother, Mary Louise Blackwell of North Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a sister, Sandra Ann Keen of Tallahassee, Fla.; a brother, William Maloy Coulter Sr. and his wife, Gail of Miami, Fla.; two nephews, William Maloy Coulter Jr. of Tallahassee, Fla., and Wesley Russano and his wife, Marisa of Miami, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his father.
