THEO L. STEVENSON
(June 3, 1922 - September 27, 2008)

THEO L. STEVENSON, 86, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Saturday, September 27, 2008 in the Cherokee Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 30th, at 10:30 a.m. at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church, rural Aurelia, Iowa. Pastor Larry Nilson will officiate. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Aurelia, Iowa. There will be military rites at the cemetery by L. A. Wescott Post #2253 of the V.F.W. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the Church on Tuesday. Visitation will be on Monday from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa with the family present from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. On line condolences may be sent to www.boothbyfuneral.com

Theo was born June 3, 1922 in Cherokee County, Iowa to Elgin C. and Edna (Leeds) Stevenson. He graduated from Quimby High School in 1939. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U. S. Navy with the Bureau of Ships in Washington, D. C. At the end of war he was stationed in Hawaii and was in charge of discharging naval personnel. Theo was among a select group of 24 Iowan veterans recognized by the Postmaster General for his service during World War II and his service to the U. S. Postal Service. He was married to Mildred Larsen on March 11, 1949 at the Quimby United Methodist Church. Theo had farmed in Pilot Township for many years, worked in the Cherokee Post Office and had been a rural mail carrier for many years, retiring in December of 1998. He was a faithful member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church, the Farm Bureau and the Retired Rural Mail Carriers. He had lived in Cherokee since January of 1993, prior to this on a farm in Pilot Township. Theo enjoyed reading, traveling, following world events in the news, spending time with his family and a good cup of coffee.

He was preceded in death by his parents Elgin and Edna Stevenson, a son Thomas in January of 1980, a brother Garold Stevenson and a grandson-in-law Gene Gustafson.

He is survived by his wife Mildred, two daughters: Karen Stark and her husband Bob of Thorton, Colorado; Gail Haight and her husband Grant of Sioux City, Iowa; a daughter-in-law Sherri Stevenson Arnold and her husband Mark of Aurelia, Iowa; 5 grandchildren: Staci Krier, Suzanne Gustafson, Michael Haight, Katie Haight, and Lindsay Stark; 4 great grandchildren: Thomas & Jackson Krier, Elizabeth and Victoria Gustafson; a brother Merlin Stevenson and his wife Bernie of Schaller, Iowa; a sister-in-law Florence Stevenson of Galva, Iowa; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
