Barbara I. Wurth, 61, of Marcus, passed away on Saturday, July 19, 2008 at Heartland Care Center in Marcus following a courageous battle with cancer. Mass of Christian Burial took place on July 22, at the Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus. Father Eugene Murray officiated. Private family burial will follow at a later date.

Barbara was born June 5, 1947 in Sioux City to Herman and Fay (Mercer) Fowler. She was raised in Morningside and graduated from East High School in 1965. She graduated from Nettleton Business College in Sioux City.

Barbara met her husband-to-be, Milton Wurth, on a blind date. Following a brief courtship they were married on Sept. 3, 1966 in Sioux City. Soon after marrying they moved to Alconbury, England while Milton was stationed in the Air Force. They lived there for two years before moving back to Milton's hometown of Marcus, where she resided with her husband until her death.

Barb worked part-time at a nursing home, as a secretary at the vet's office, for the church, and helped with Sunday school, all while raising her four children. Still, she found time to bake cookies, give haircuts in the kitchen, and settle many sibling disputes. She opened Wurth Hardware in 1985 and operated this business successfully for 22 years. She was also an active member of the Noname Club, Marcus Chamber, Marcus Main Street, and Cherokee Economic Development.

Barb enjoyed playing cards with friends and family, gardening, craft projects, and baking. One of the greatest joys of her life was being a mother and being grandma to her four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents Herman and Fay Fowler; one brother David Fowler; one sister-in-law Margery Fowler; and one brother-in-law Marvin Wurth.

Survivors include her husband Milton of Marcus; three sons Andrew Wurth, Dennis Wurth and his wife Lauralee, and Kenneth Wurth all of Rochester, Minn.; and one daughter Angela Wurth, of Omaha, Neb.; four grandchildren Madison, Nicholas, Melanie, and Samantha all of Rochester, Minn.; two brothers Richard Fowler and his wife Neva, of Peoria, AZ, Donald Fowler and his wife Connie of Westminster, Colo.; one sister Marjorie Mancuso, of Cupertino, Calif.; three brothers-in-law Francis Wurth and his wife Patricia, Joseph Wurth and his wife Peg, and Larry Wurth and his wife Jean, all of Marcus; two sisters-in-law Mary Leonard and her husband Larry of Shawnee Mission, Kan., and Peg Wurth of Platteville, Wis.; and several nieces and nephews.
