(November 26, 1918 - July 3, 2008)ARBIE B. DESSEL, 89, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Thursday afternoon, July 3, 2008 at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 7th, at 10:30 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. The Rev. Magrey deVega will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset View Cemetery at Washta, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home on Monday. Visitation will be Sunday from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee with the family present from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. On line condolences may be sent to www.boothbyfuneral.com
Arbie was born November 26, 1918 at Washta, Iowa to Alfred and Sophia (Hartliep) Boothby. She graduated from Washta High School in 1937. She was married to Joseph V. Dessel on February 20, 1938 in Cherokee, Iowa. She was a homemaker and helped out around the farm. She was a member of the Washta United Methodist Church. Arbie enjoyed sewing and traveling. She had been a resident of Cherokee the past 47 years and prior to this had lived in Quimby for 9 years, Correctionville for 3 years, and was originally from Washta. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Joseph on June 6, 2004, a grandson Lyle Douglas Dessel.
She is survived by three sons: Douglas Dessel and his wife Pat of Roca, Nebraska; Ardell Dessel and his wife Barb of New Sharon, Iowa; Kevin Dessel and his wife Hallie of Cherokee, Iowa; 13 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; a brother Arlin “Slim”Boothby and his wife Eleanor of Moville, Iowa.
