GREGG ELWYN CROUCH
(June 5, 1925 - June 24, 2008)

U.S. Veteran Gregg Elwyn Crouch, 83 of Ankeny, Iowa passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at the Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 28th at 10:30 a.m. at the Washta United Methodist Church. The Pastor Richard Layman will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset View Cemetery at Washta, Iowa. Visitation will be on Friday from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa with the family present from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. There will be military rites at the cemetery. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, July 1 at 2:00 p.m. at Ankeny First United Methodist Church, 206 SW Walnut St., Ankeny, IA. On line condolences may be sent to www.boothbyfuneral.com

Gregg was born June 5, 1925 in Cherokee, Iowa, the son of Ed Gregory and Irma (Beazley) Crouch. He grew up on a farm in northwest Ida County and graduated from Washta High School in 1943. He served in the United States Air Corps and the OSS (forerunner of the CIA) and was discharged in 1946. He attended Drake University graduating in January of 1950 in Business Administration. He married Norma Sparks June 5, 1948 at Ames, Iowa. Gregg retired as Iowa Claims Manager from Continental Western Insurance Company (Western Mutual Insurance) after 32 years in July of 1986. He was a cardiac rehabilitation volunteer first at the Des Moines YMCA and then at the Ankeny YMCA for 15 years. He was their “Man of the Year” in 2001. He served as a Hunter Safety instructor for the DNR for 20 years. He was also a charter member of the Ankeny Izaac Walton League and served two terms as president. He spent 500 hours volunteering for Iowa Health. He volunteered for 11 years as an Information person for the Iowa State Fair, and served for three years as an advisor for Junior Achievement.

He is preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law Maxine Crouch, and niece, Stacy Crouch.

He is survived by Norma, his wife of 60 years, and two children: Marcene Diane Daniel (Kenneth Bennett) of Shellsburg, Iowa, and Eric Gregg Crouch (David Sharp) of Ames; his brother Gary Crouch (Nancy) of Washta, a nephew, Michael Crouch of Indiana, a niece, Amy Johnson of Cherokee, two great nephews and a great niece. Memorials may be made to the Ankeny First United Methodist Church, the Ankeny YMCA or the Washta United Methodist Church.
