Florence Bierman

Florence Bierman, 87, formerly of Marcus, Iowa, died Friday, May 30, 2008 in the La Plata Nursing Home, near Kirksville, Missouri, following a brief illness.

Services will be held Wednesday June 4, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor James Steen will officiate. Burial will be in the Marcus-Amherst Cemetery in Marcus, Iowa. Visitation will be Tuesday from 9:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M., with the family present from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. at the Greenwood Funeral Home, Cherokee, Iowa. Florence was born June 14, 1920 in Cherokee County, Iowa to Gus and Edith (Ackerlund) Berglund. She attended school in Marcus, Iowa, graduating from Marcus High School in 1938. She later attended Westmar College in LeMars, Iowa. On November 26, 1942 she married Francis Bierman in Tilden Township, rural Cherokee, Iowa. He preceded her in death April 15, 2004. While Francis was serving in World War II, Florence taught country school south of Marcus, Iowa. They lived on Dr. Joynt’s farm in rural Marcus, Iowa for 40 years. Florence was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee, Iowa. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She loved living on the farm, cooking, growing flowers, and quilting, and had made many beautiful quilts for her family.

Survivors include a daughter, Joy Seggerman, of Kirksville, Missouri; sons, David Bierman, and his wife, Donella, of Marcus, Iowa; Charles Bierman, and his wife, Ann, of Breda, Iowa; a sister, Mary Ann Miller, and her husband, Wally, of Cherokee, Iowa; 9 grandsons, Michael, David, Matthew, Phillip, Francis, Matthew Charles, Luke, Clint, Joseph; a granddaughter, Ellie Joy; 5 great-grandchildren, Zachary, Shelby, Justyne, Jacob, Hannah.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a daughter Judy Johnston (1995), a son Michael Bierman (2001), 3 brothers, Glen Berglund, Kenny Berglund, Arnold Berglund, a son-in-law, Leonard Seggerman (2006).
