VIVIAN V. SPECHT, 103, of Marcus, Iowa and former long time Cherokee resident, passed away Monday, June 2, 2008 at the Heartland Care Center in Marcus, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 6th,at 10:30 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Marcus, Iowa. Pastor Don Meyer will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the church on Friday.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee with the family present from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. On line condolences may be sent to www.boothbyfuneral.com.

Vivian was born September 16, 1904 at Quimby, Iowa to Vincent & Katherine (Warner) Smith. With the family, they lived in Texas, Oklahoma, Minnesota and back to Iowa. She finished her education in the Quimby Schools. She worked for various people in the area. She was married to William J. Specht on January 14, 1924 at his sisters house in Cherokee, Iowa. The couple were blessed with three children, Chet, Wanda and Janet. She was baptized and confirmed in the Trinity Lutheran Church at rural Marcus, Iowa, where she was a longtime member. Vivian taught Sunday School, was a charter member of the Ladies Aide, made trips to the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. After moving to Cherokee, she taught and made ceramics and had a hobby shop called the Hob Nob. She belonged to the Marcus and Cherokee Garden Clubs and was a member of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary. Vivian liked to travel, making two trips to Germany, also visiting the eastern and western part of the United States. She entered Heartland Care Center in Marcus on January 15, 1998.

She was preceded in death by her husband on June 21, 1978, a daughter Janet Peck in 1977, two granddaughters, one great grandson, one great granddaughter, and 11 brothers and sisters.

She is survived by one son and one daughter: Chester Specht and his wife Midge of Cleghorn, Iowa; Wanda Jones of Kirksville, Missouri; 12 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 32 great great grandchildren; also several nieces and nephews.
