Beverly L. Swanson 72, of Cherokee, died Tuesday May 20, 2008 at the Cherokee Villa Nursing and Rehab Center following a lengthy illness.

Memorial services were held May 27 at the Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee. Rev. Magrey DeVega officiated. There was no visitation. Burial was in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee. Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee was in charge of arrangements.

Beverly was born on July 6, 1935 in Cherokee, to DeForest and Mable (French) Steward. She attended school in Cherokee. On Sept. 10, 1971, she married Jack Charles Swanson. He preceded her in death on Jan. 18, 1979. Bev worked at many restaurants as a waitress and later worked at Greg's Nursing Home. Beverly was involved with the V.F.W. Auxillary and volunteering at nursing homes. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church. Bev enjoyed spending time with her daughter and her grandchildren, and also her cat Harley.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jack, sisters Fern Wilson and her husband, Charles and Erma Thurman and her husband, Les; Bernice Steward; Doris Johnson; brothers Lloyd Steward, Wayne Steward, and Jim Steward and a brother-in-law, Delmar McGowan.

She is survived by a daughter, Julie Hoyle and her husband Steven of Cherokee; three grandchildren, Courtney Johnson, Patrick Johnson, and Michael Hoyle; two sisters, Velma Martin of Cherokee and Betty McGowan of Storm Lake; a brother, Louis Steward of Cherokee; sisters-in-law, Arlene Steward of Storm Lake and Margaret Steward of Quimby; a brother-in-law, Edwin Johnson of Cherokee; and many nieces and nephews.
