Thomas G. Neustrom, 73, of 300 Sesame Street, Cherokee, Iowa, died Saturday March 15, 2008, at his home, following a lengthy illness.
Services will be held Thursday at 10:00 A.M. at the Greenwood Funeral Home, Cherokee, Iowa. Rev. Armand Bertrand will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Cherokee, Iowa. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M., with a scripture service at 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Military graveside honors will be conducted by V.F.W., L.A. Wescott Post #2253. Tom was born March 18, 1934 in Anthon, Iowa to William and Marjorie (Carr) Neustrom. He attended school in Marcus, Iowa at both Marcus Holy Name and Marcus Public High School. Tom entered the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Guam during the Korean War. Following his military service Tom returned to Marcus and soon left for Louisiana where he worked as an electrician for the Loffland Oil Company in the Gulf of Mexico. He returned to Cherokee, Iowa in 1970 where he worked as an electrician for Wilson Foods, Inc., until his retirement in 1996. In 1959 he married Veronica Magee in New Iberia, Louisiana. Tom loved his music, playing the banjo and guitar and writing songs.
He is survived by his son, Todd Neustrom and his special friend, Maureen Glassmaker, of Larrabee, Iowa; daughter, Linda Bourque, and her husband, David, of Breaux Bridge, Louisiana; soul mate and the love of his life for 31 years, Judy Buss, of Cherokee, Iowa; three brothers, Will Neustrom and his wife, Rita, of Hamilton, Montana; Roy Neustrom of Clear Lake, California; Jack Neustrom of San Francisco, California; sister-in-law, Mary Neustrom of Eureka, California; brother-in-law, J.B. Comeaux of New Iberia, Louisiana; grandchildren, David Bourque and Jamie Bourque of Breaux Bridge, Louisiana; Miranda Neustrom and Nicole Neustrom of Cherokee, Iowa; great-grandchildren, Mikayla Bourque, Christopher Bourque, and Destiny Bourque; step-daughter, Robin Adams Hays of Climax, Minnesota; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Patricia Bakker and Maureen Comeaux; three brothers, Owen, Wayne, and Charles Neustrom.
