Marvin “Marv” D. McMurrin, 70, of Quimby, Iowa died Friday February 15, 2008 at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa following a sudden illness.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday February 20, 2008 at the Greenwood Funeral Home, Cherokee, Iowa. Father Armand Bertrand will officiate. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. with the family present from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Greenwood Funeral Home, Cherokee, Iowa. Memorials are requested to the Quimby Public Library and the Cherokee Bacon Aquatic Center.
Marv was born May 3, 1937 in Portland, Oregon to Albert G. “Dewey” and Carolyn (Bresler) McMurrin. He attended rural county school and graduated from Quimby High School in 1957. On June 13, 1959 he married Janice Rupp at the Maryhill Church. In 1960 he started farming and continued until 1976. Marv then worked as an operator for Quimby Redi- Mix, Christensen Bros. Redi -Mix, and finally Russell’s Redi- Mix. Marv enjoyed gardening, visiting with friends, Saturday night poker club, and just being on his farm. Marv also enjoyed hosting the annual Labor Day Picnic. His greatest pride was his children and his greatest joy was his two grandsons.
He is survived by his wife, Janice; a daughter, Lora McMurrin Jenkins of Tool, Texas; two sons, Bob McMurrin, and his wife, Nan, of Spring Valley, Wisconsin; Tim McMurrin and Sabrina White of Portland, Oregon; grandsons, Brice Niehaus of Hudson, Wisconsin and Lance McMurrin of Spring Valley, Wisconsin; a special niece, Nancy Niles and her husband, John Sjoblom , of Fort Dodge, Iowa; and her children Chad King, of Fairbault, Minnesota; Sloan King and her son, Niles, of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Della Jane and her husband, Alvie Niles; a son-in-law Jack Jenkins.
