Esther L. Carson, 100, of Cherokee passed away Friday, Feb. 15, 2008, at Careage Hills in Cherokee.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee, with the Rev. Magrey deVega officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee. There will be a family prayer service at 1:45 p.m. Monday at the church. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 2 to 4 p.m., at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee.
Esther was born March 11, 1907, at Willow City, N.D., to Emil and Anna (Ross) Schneider. She attended school in Willow City and then graduated from high school in Pilger, Neb. She then attended Wayne State College and received her teaching certificate.
She taught school for two years until her marriage to Wayne W. Carson on June 30, 1927, at Council Bluffs, Iowa. Esther had been a resident of Cherokee since 1985. Prior to this, she lived on a farm in Afton Township and had also lived in Pilger, Neb., for 27 years.
She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and the Afton Book Club. She enjoyed golfing, dancing, playing cards, traveling, fishing and sewing.
Survivors include a son and a daughter, Robert Carson and his wife, Aleene of Waco, Texas, and Leila Wolfe and her husband, Dale of Cherokee; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Carson of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Ollenburg of Fremont, Neb.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wayne on July 17, 1987; a son, Bill Carson on June 5, 2005; a great-grandson, Garrett Carson; a son-in-law, Donald Goodburn; two sisters, Edna Carlson and Ann Tietgen; and a brother, Lloyd Schneider.
