Wilbur L. Tigges
July 3, 1907 - January 28, 2008

Wilbur Lawrence Tigges, the son of William and Esther (Goodrich) Tigges, was born on July 3, 1907, on a farm in Spring Township in Cherokee County, Iowa. He received his early education by attending country schools and graduating from Brooke Consolidated School in 1926.

On September 21, 1932, Wilbur married Marguerite Lindlief at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. Following their marriage, Wilbur farmed the family farm all his life until retiring to Peterson in 1975. During his retirement he still went out to the farm and helped his son for many years. Wilbur was a member on the Brooke School Board and the St. John’s Church Board. Wilbur was also a past member of the Peterson Lion’s Club. He was one of the first to practice soil conservation by building terraces and contouring. Wilbur loved to ballroom dance, square dance and fishing.

Wilbur passed away on January 28, 2008, at Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee, IA, at the age of 100. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Marguerite on May 29, 2001; his son in infancy, Lynn in 1943; his grandson, Roger Tigges in 1978; his brothers and sisters: Edith, Esther, Earl, Pearl, Eldon and Chester.

Left to cherish his memory are his two sons: Carroll and his wife, Elsie of Peterson, IA, and Neal and his wife, Marilyn of Scottsdale, AZ; one daughter, Joy and her husband, Roger of Lincoln, NE; 8 grandchildren: Mark Tigges (Linda), Gary Tigges(Cindy), Donna Schwindt (Matt Kunitz), Larry Tigges (Cindy), Allen Tigges (Marilyn), Debbie Schwindt, Gerri Reints (Tom), Fay Winter (Bill) 11 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
