Pete Christensen, 97, formerly of 200 E. Maple Cherokee, died Monday, Dec. 17, 2007 at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center Cherokee.

Services were held Friday Dec. 21 at the Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee. Pastor Larry Nielsen officiated. Burial was in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Hartley, Iowa.

Pete was born Jan. 13, 1910 near Alta, to Danish immigrants Carl and Christina (Thygersen) Christensen. He attended country school in the Aurelia and Linn Grove areas. He attended barber school in Sioux City, but found his "knack" in cooking. During World War II he worked as a welder in the shipyards in California. On Aug. 21, 1945 he married Leahanne "Lee" Thietje in Hartley. She preceded him in death March 15, 2007.
