Maye L. Small, 80, of Washta, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2007, at 6:15 p.m. in the Correctionville Nursing & Rehab Center following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services were held Dec. 21 at the Washta United Methodist Church, with Rev. Carolyn Hollar officiating.

Burial was in the Sunset View Cemetery at Washta.

Maye was born on May 27, 1927 at Correctionville, to Charles & Maime (Wells) Scott. She grew up in Correctionville and attended Correctionville High School. She was married to Arnold "Fat" Small on May 29, 1948 at Moville.

She and her husband spent two years in California, moving back to Washta in 1959. She had worked as a waitress and also part-time as a store clerk. Maye enjoyed reading and working crossword puzzles. She was a member of the Washta Cemetery Association.

She was affiliated with the Washta United Methodist Church and was on the Methodist Church Friendship Committee.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband on Aug. 12, 1988, four brothers Cliff, Clarence, Hubert and Leland Scott, three sisters Laurene Callaway, Opal Siefke and Gertrude Egley.

She is survived by many nieces and nephews whom she thought of as her own.
