Joan H. Pettengill, age 72, of Cresco, died on Dec. 13, 2007 at Evans Memorial Home in Crecso, after a short illness. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Dec. 15, at the First Lutheran Church in Cresco, with buriel at 10 A.M. on Dec. 17, at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Aurelia IA.
Joan Helen Pettengill was born on July 7th. 1935 at Aurelia, the daughter of Willie and Clementine ( Waddell) Westphal. She graduated from Aurelia High School and attended Buena Vista College. On Feb. 28, 1958 she was united in marriage to Donald Pettengill at the Zion Lutheran Church in Aurelia. To this union, they were blessed with a son, Darnell.
Joan was a devoted wife and mother, with Donald being involed in his work she faithfully moved to various towns and schools such as Jefferson, Galva, Manson, Ayrshire, Graettinger, and Interstate 35, In 1982 they made their home in Cresco where they would have celebrated, in Feb. their 50th wedding anniversary.
Joan was active with the high school band and twirlers during school. She was an active member of the First Lutheran Church Ladies, Rebecca Circle, Hospital Auxiliary, 2 bridge clubs, and the Friends and Council Womans Club.
Joan enjoyed playing piano and bridge. She enjoyed spending time with her 3 cats and her dog. She also loved having her son and grandchildren visit.
She was preceeded in death by her parents.
Survovors are her husband, son, Darnell ( Donna) of Lake Zurich, ILL: 2 grandchildren; Laura Pettengill of Des Moines, and Michael Pettengill of Lake Zurich, Ill.
