Ethel L. Anderson, 91, of Cherokee passed away Thursday, Nov. 29, 2007, at Cherokee Regional Medical Center.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Cherokee, with Pastor Larry Nilson officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee. There will be a family prayer service at 1:15 p.m. Monday at the church. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 4 to 6 p.m., at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee.

Ethel was born May 28, 1916, at Newell, Iowa, to Iver and Karen Maria (Gravesen) Nielsen. She graduated from Newell High School in 1933. She was married to Eugene P. Anderson on June 3, 1937, at Elk Point, S.D. She had lived in Cherokee since 1942.

Ethel loved music, especially playing the piano and singing. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Cherokee, where through the years she taught Sunday school, Bible school, sang solos and sang in a trio, played the piano for the church and Sunday school. She was a member of the Degree of Honor Lodge.

Survivors include three sons and two daughters, Tracy Anderson and his wife, Patricia of Kalona, Iowa, David Anderson and his wife, Eunice of Treynor, Iowa, Ann Dodge of Johnson, Vt., Linda Phelan of Las Vegas, Nev., and Gene Anderson and his wife, Jean of Cherokee; eight grandsons, Cary Anderson and wife, Cindy of Philadelphia, Pa., Jay Anderson of Wellman, Iowa, Matthew Anderson of Omaha, Noel Dodge of Johnson, Vt., Chad Phelan of London, England, Jeffrey Phelan and wife, Frannie of Las Vegas, Mike Anderson and wife, Stacy of Overland Park, Kan., and Jason Anderson and wife, Maggie of Ankeny, Iowa; six granddaughters, Kathy Maguire and husband, Shon of Treynor, Iowa, Stacie Anderson of Omaha, Emily Brewster and husband, James of Morrisville, Vt., Kate Opton and husband, Dan of Hinesburg, Vt., Sara Holmes and husband, Greg of Olathe, Kan., and Kylene Phelan and special friend, Scott Paine of Torrance, Calif.; and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on Dec. 21, 1990; a son-in-law, Ronald Phelan; as well as several brothers and sisters.
