Joan Kauffman, 75, of Marcus died Friday, Nov. 16, 2007, at Heartland Care Center in Marcus following a lengthy illness.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Marcus, with Pastor Don Meyer officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery at Marcus. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Joan was born April 7, 1932, on a farm in Woodbury County, Iowa, to Ernest and Orfa (Riordan) Bleasdell. She was educated in Woodbury County schools and graduated from high school in Moville, Iowa.

On Sept. 10, 1950, she married Loren Kauffman in Moville, at United Brethren Church. He preceded her in death on Feb. 27, 2003. Loren and Joan taught snowmobile safety courses for many years. Joan cooked for the Marcus schools for 13 years and lived around Marcus all of her married life.

Joan enjoyed camping, jigsaw puzzles, cooking and spending time with her family.

Survivors include two daughters, Teresa Lockhart and her husband, Tim of Long Beach, Wash., and Nancy Ah Chong and her husband, Puna of Salt Lake City, Utah; two sons, Randy Kauffman and his wife, Teresa of Marcus, and John Kauffman and his wife, Jodie of Eagle Grove, Iowa; two sisters, Carol Corbin of Kingsley, Iowa, and Mary Jane Stiener of Coshocton, Ohio; a brother, Rollie Bleasdell of Sioux City; and grandchildren, Jamie Kauffman, Faleata Ah Chong, Tatiana Ah Chong and Puna Ah Chong Jr.

She was preceded in death by her husband and a sister, Frances Lang.
