Kenneth George Beckman, 80, formerly of Larrabee, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2007, at Careage Hills Care Center at Cherokee, Iowa, following a brief illness.

Services will be 10:30 am. Tuesday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee, with Pastor James Steen officiating. Burial will be in Immanuel American Lutheran Cemetery at Fulda, Minn. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee. Online condolences may be left at www.greenwoodfuneral.com.

Ken was born March 7, 1927, in Nobles County, near Fulda, Minn., to George and Lena (Luepke) Beckman. He attended school in Southwest Minnesota. Ken worked on farms near Fulda for several years before moving to Sharon, Wis., where he also worked as farm labor. Kenneth served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, touring on the USS Pensacola.

On Feb. 4, 1948, he married Mable Just in Fulda. She preceded him in death on May 26, 2004. They moved to Cherokee in 1976, with Ken working for Holzhauer Motor Co. until his retirement in 1990.

He was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church and American Legion Post 0670.

Survivors include his son, Arlan Beckman and his wife, Barb of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a daughter, Leann Beckman and her husband, Bob of Spencer, Iowa; and grandchildren, Aaron Beckman, Amber Luepke, Benjamin and Shannon Beckman.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; brothers, Bill, Albert and Otto; and a sister, Millie.
