1921-1989 CHEROKEE ARCHIVES

Vernon L. Fierk, 68, of Aurelia, died Wed. Feb. 22, in Sioux Valley Hospital in Cherokee after an extended illness.
Services will be Sat. at 11 a.m. at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Aurelia. The Rev. Rick Senner, pastor of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Elk Township, will officiate,. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Aurelia. Wharton Funeral Homes is in charge of the arrangements.

He was born Feb.9, 1921 at Aurelia. He attended Aurelia Community School Graduating in 1938. He served in the U.S.Army Air Corp. from 1942-1946 during WWII.

On Oct. 9th,1948, he married Pauline Johnson in Elk Township, Buena Vista County.

He worked as a carpenter in earlier years, and later for Farm Service until his retirement. He was a member of American Legion post 390, Aurelia, a charter member of Kiwanis Club, and former member of Knights of Pythias and for 2 terms on the Aurelia Council. He also served on the council of the Immanuel Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife, 2 daughters, Mrs. Dick ( Terri) Turner of Cottage Grove , Wis. and Mrs. Jim (Judy) Cargin, Grand Prairie Texas, ; 2 Sisters, Mrs. Arnold ( Ruth) Faber, Cherokee, and Mrs. Edger (Viola) Allen of Aurelia. and 4 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters.
