1924-1997 CHEROKEE ARCHIVES
Gerhardt W. Braunschweig, 73, of Aurelia, IA passed away Tues., July 29, 1997 at his home in Aurelia.

Funeral services will be held Fri. Aug. 1 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Paul
Lutheran Church in Aurelia, with Pastor David Renfro officiating.. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill cemetery in Aurelia.

He was born Apr. 7, 1924 in Potter, Nebr. to Pastor Otto and Lizetta (Gerike) Braunschweig. He was baptized by his father on Apr. 20, 1924, and was confirmed by his father on Apr 2, 1939, at Immanuel Lutheran Church , rural Aurelia. He was educated in the Brooke and Aurelia school systems.He served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Buckley during WWII.

On June 5, 1949 he married Helen Mae Borgeson at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee. After farming he was employed by Cherokee Implement and Case IH in Storm Lake as a parts man. he was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, American Legion, and the Aurelia Planning and Zoning board.

Survivors are his wife, 3 daughters; Shirley and her husband Rod Sundberg, Linn Grove; Joyce and her husband Tim Lundsgaard, Cherokee; Carol and her husband Craig Ballantyne, Aurelia; 3 sons, Steven and his wife Judy of Sidney; Mark and his wife Janene, Cherokee; and John and his wife Valerie,Cheyenne Wyo. 15 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren. 6 brothers , Reinhold and his wife Rosa, Ripon Wisc.; Arnold and his wife Betty, Iowa Falls; Carl and his wife Beverly, Wall Lake ; Robert and his wife Sharon, Donahue IA, Victor and his wife Oklahoma, Meridianville, Alabama, and Bernard and his wife Diana, Golden , Colo.; 4 sisters, Cornelia and her husband Willis Workentein, Falcon Heights, Minn.; Verona Fosdick, Fairmont, Minn.; Annette Braunschweig, Tavares, Florida; and Anna and her husband Herb Huseman, Riceville, Wisc.; 2 sisters-in-law; Evelyn Braunschweig, Alta,. and Nelda Rowe, Rolla MO.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 son, Wesley; 2 granddaughters, Megan and Nicole Ballantyne; 2 brothers Theodore and Ottomar; and 1 sister, Eleonora Honsbruck.
