JoAnne Stratton, 79, of 333 Sioux Valley Dr., Cherokee, Iowa died Friday October 12, 2007, at the Countryside Estates Nursing Home, Cherokee, Iowa, following a brief illness.

Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday October 16, 2007, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Cherokee, Iowa. Rev. Armand Bertrand will officiate. Burial will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cherokee, Iowa. There will be no visitation. Online condolences may be sent at www.greenwoodfuneral.com.

JoAnne was born December 25, 1927 in Kingsley, Iowa to Ray and Agnes (Bird) Dugan. She was the 4th of 6 children born to them. She attended school in Cherokee and graduated from Washington High School in 1945. She was nominated for Tomahawk Relays Queen her senior year in high school. She married Russell "Teelee" Stratton of Meriden at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in 1948. He preceded her in death in 1995. They lived most of their life in and around the Cherokee area. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

JoAnne was a Social Worker in the Psychiatric ward of the Cherokee Mental Health Institute for 15 years. While living in Des Moines she was runner-up at the Des Moines City Tournament. She was also the women’s club champion at Willow Creek and Ponderosa Golf courses in the Des Moines area. After she and her family moved back to Cherokee in 1971, she went on to win multiple women’s club championships at the Cherokee Country Club, and tied the course record for women that stood for years. Her other golfing accomplishments included winning the annual Cherokee Invitational 2 ball several times with her husband, and once with her son. She also hit three hole-in-ones at the Cherokee course, two of them being in one year.
Many will also remember JoAnne for being a scorekeeper for over 40 years at the annual Sioux Valley Amateur Men's Match Play Tournament held in
Cherokee.

JoAnne was well renowned for her bridge playing, and was recognized as one of Cherokee's better players! Her other hobbies included cooking & entertaining. Friends and relatives were always welcome at her home. She was a very compassionate and kind loving soul with an infectious smile. JoAnne loved spending time with her family and her grandchildren.

She is survived by 3 sons, Jeff Stratton and his wife, Anna, of Des Moines, Iowa, Russ Stratton and his wife, Aimee, of Jefferson, Iowa, and Scott Stratton and his wife, Lori, of Ankeny, Iowa; 6 granchildren; 2 sisters, Mary Walton of Sarasota, Florida, and Marjorie Whitaker of Chico, California; a sister-in-law LeVere Dugan.

She was preceded in death by her husband Russell “Teelee”, brothers Donald "Bub" Dugan (1979), Ray Dugan Jr. (1992), and a sister Pat Early (1979).
