Orville L. Gregg, 79, of rural Cherokee passed away Sunday, Sept. 23, 2007, at his residence following a lingering illness.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, with the Rev. Larry Nilson officiating. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Cedar Cemetery, Larrabee, Iowa. A time of sharing with the family will be 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Orville was born March 5, 1928, in Cherokee County, Iowa, to Raymond and Emily (Gilbert) Gregg. He attended country school and graduated from Aurelia (Iowa) High School in 1946.

He was married to Ellen Smith on Oct. 26, 1954, at Mount Olive Baptist Church in rural Cherokee. His home was on a farm in Silver Township, where he had lived for many years. He wintered in Manhattan, Mont., for the past 10 years. He had farmed for many years, retiring in 1993.

He enjoyed the many times he would visit his children and grandchildren. He was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church and an active part of the Manhattan Bible Church in Montana for the past 10 winters.

He is survived by his wife, Ellen; three children and their spouses, Roger and Cheryl Gregg of Yankton, S.D., Kevin and Corriena Gregg of Ennis, Mont., and DeeAnn and Clayton Stinson of Bozeman, Mont.; six grandchildren, Rachel, Travis, Chelsee, Emily, Katie and Kyle; two brothers and their wives, Vernon and Marlys Gregg of Cherokee and Lorace and Arta Gregg of Cherokee; and a sister, Clara Sudbeck of Ames, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
