Charles G. Addy, 93, of Marcus passed away Saturday, Sept. 22, 2007, in Marcus.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, at Grace United Methodist Church in Marcus, with the Rev. Gary McDonough officiating. Burial will be in Holy Name Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1, with the family present 5 to 7 p.m., at Earnest-Rohde Funeral Home in Marcus. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church.

Charles George Addy was born on a farm in Amherst Township, Cherokee County, Iowa, on Oct. 1, 1913, to Charles Stanley and Rachel (Pimperton) Addy. He was raised near Marcus, where he attended country school. He later graduated from Marcus High School in 1931. He continued his education by attending business school in Kansas City, Mo. He returned to Marcus and farmed with his parents for a few years. He began his career with the Marcus Oil and Supply Company in 1936 as a tank truck driver.

On Feb. 20, 1939, he and Fern Kramer were united in marriage at Holy Name Catholic Church. The couple made their home in Marcus, where they raised their family. He was named manager of Marcus Oil in 1940, a position he held for 39 years. He retired from Marcus Oil in 1979. He also raised turkeys for 20 years.

His business was service and so was his life. He served on the Marcus Medical and the Farmers State Bank boards, the Marcus Town Council, the Boy Scout Council and the Golf Association. He belonged to the Rotary Club, the Commercial Club and the Iowa Independent Oil and Jobbers Association. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. He was honored for his involvement in the Marcus community by being named the Quasquicentennial King of Marcus in 1996. He was a loyal St. Louis Cardinal, Iowa Hawkeye and Marcus Eagle sports fan. He was an avid gardener of both vegetables and flowers.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 68 years, Fern; his children, Charles J. Addy and his wife, Frances, John R. Addy and Joan and her husband, Mike Kelley, all of Omaha, Gayle Leitz of Tracy, Calif., and Ray M. Addy of Marcus; grandchildren, Karen (Addy) Tully, Charles Samuel and Joseph Addy, Patrick and Michael Addy, Rachel, Emily, Amber, Nicholas and Hannah Kelley, John Pearson, Maggie Leitz and Sarah (Leitz) Perez; great-grandchildren, Stanley, Cora and Amelia Tully, Cody and Ashley Pearson and Charlie Addy; a brother, Lawrence Addy of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a sister-in-law, Margaret Addy of Fayette, Iowa; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marie Deichmann, Marjorie Klingborg and Lois Addy; and brothers, Robert and Donald Addy.
