Colleen A. Johnson, 72, of Washta passed away Friday, Sept. 14, 2007, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee, Iowa, with Pastor Jim Steen officiating. Burial will be in Sunset View Cemetery at Washta. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee.

Colleen was born Nov. 20, 1934, at Cushing, Iowa, to Johan Albin and Elsie Hanson. She graduated from Quimby High School in 1953.

She was married to Henry Johnson on Sept. 14, 1958, in Cherokee, Iowa. Her home was in Washta, where she had lived since 2002. Prior to this, she lived on a farm in Afton Township. Colleen had worked as a secretary for Simonsens in Quimby until her marriage. In 1994, she started working for Rhoadside Greenhouses as a receptionist until her retirement in 2002. For many years, she played the accordion for dances and other social activities in the area. In 1968, they became the parents of a son, Charles Brown, who was 10 years old at the time.

She was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee. Her church was a very important part of her life. Colleen loved life, loved to laugh, have fun and enjoyed friends or family stopping for coffee. Colleen’s family was very special to her and cherished the time spent with them. She also enjoyed dancing, baking, knitting and just having a good time.

She is survived by her husband, Henry; a son, Charles and his wife, Holly of Burnsville, Minn.; two grandchildren, Lindsey and Chasson; a brother, Lonnie Hanson and his wife, Pat of Washta; four nieces, Cheryl and David Fluke and their two children, Jessica and Dylan; Cara and Andy Ross and their children, Jade and Trevor; Michelle Hanson, Amy Hanson and her special friend, Erick; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and grandparents.
