Joe William Irwin, died at his home on Saturday, April 10, 2004 after a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services were today at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 14, 2004 at Peace Lutheran Church in Marcus with Rev. James Gruber officiating. Burial was at Grand Meadow Cemetery, rural Washta.

Joe was born February 16, 1954 in Cherokee, the son of Richard S. and Ruby B.(Sargent) Irwin. He grew up on the family farm south of Marcus and attended schools at Grand Meadow and Marcus graduating in 1972. He married Eileen Herzberg on May 15, 1976 in Germantown. He worked for the past 30 years at what is now known as Tyson Foods in Cherokee. Joe loved the outdoors and enjoyed trapping, hunting, and fishing. His children were his greatest pride and joy in life.

Joe is survived by his wife, Eileen Irwin of Marcus; two sons: Jadrien Irwin of Fairmont, Minn., Luke Irwin of Cherokee; a daughter, Tara Irwin and her fiance, Brett Van Meter of Sergeant Bluff; his mother, Ruby Irwin of Kingsley; one brother, Jim "Trapper" Irwin and his wife, Ruth, of Weiner, Ark.; two sisters: Mary Lou Johnson and her husband, Chuck of Hiawatha, Iowa and Virginia Ingebritson.
