Wesley Duane Bierman, 81, of Pierson passed away Saturday, Sept. 1, 2007, at his residence.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Kingsley United Methodist Church in Kingsley, Iowa, with the Rev. Roger Kurtenbach officiating. Burial will be in Kingsley Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at the church. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Rohde-Earnest Funeral Home in Kingsley.

Wesley was born Dec. 19, 1925, in Cherokee County, Iowa, the son of George and Marie (Klingbeil) Bierman. He attended Grand Meadows School and graduated in 1943. Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served aboard the USS West Virginia and was in seven major battles in the South Pacific. He was at Tokyo Bay for the signing of the Japanese surrender and was there when they raised in flag in Iwo Jima.

On Dec. 20, 1951, he married Marian Case, the daughter of George and Alma Case, at the United Methodist Church in Pierson. He farmed in the Grand Meadow area for 25 years. While farming, he became an electrician. In 1977, he moved from the farm to Pierson and was a self-employed electrician until he retired in 1988.

He was a member of United Methodist Church and the American Legion. He enjoyed spending time with his family and traveled, when he was able, to see his grandchildren's activities. He also enjoyed woodworking, camping and fishing. You could find him socializing and having coffee with friends up to the time of his death.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Marian of Pierson; two daughters and their husbands, June and Bill Fox of Traverse City, Mich., and Joli and Mark Gehring of Ponca, Neb.; four grandchildren, Mike and Nick Fox and Ben and Anthony Gehring; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Bierman of Holstein, Iowa; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Arlie and Aileen Grage of Marcus, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Donnie Bierman; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Edwin and Maxine Ludwig; and a nephew, Guy Ludwig.
