Mary (Beck) Doupe, 100, of Cherokee passed away Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007, at Careage Hills in Cherokee.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, with the Rev. Ray Kruger officiating. Burial will be in Afton Township Cemetery. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Visitation will be 1 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mary was born Nov. 22, 1906, to John and Emma (Riley) Beck, on the home farm in Afton Township, Cherokee, Iowa. She attended high school in Cherokee, graduating with the class of 1925. She entered nursing school at St. Joseph Hospital in Sioux City. She transferred to the Cook County School of Nursing in Chicago, graduating in April 1930. She then attended the Michael Reese Hospital School of Anesthesia for four months and passed the required examinations on Oct. 1, 1931.

She was united in marriage to Montiford Doupe on Feb. 6, 1933. She spent most of her life as a nurse at Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in Cherokee. She was employed with Dr. Thomas Gary and had also worked at the Cherokee Mental Health Institute. She spent most of her life on the Beck home farm until moving to Careage Hills in November 1997.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on Dec. 12, 1987; a twin brother; four other brothers, Riley, Arthur, Edwin and John Beck; and a sister, Bonnie Shaw.
