Bart L. Neel,87,Aurelia died Tuesday Oct. 9, 2001, at the Sunset Knoll Retirement Home in Aurelia, Memorial services were held Friday, Oct. 23, 2001, at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Aurelia, with Pastor Jack O. Weida officiating. Burial was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Aurelia. Military honors were conducted by the Grashoff-McManus American Legion Post #390 of Aurelia.

Bart Lord Neel was born Dec. 17, 1913, the son of Barnett L.and Bonnie L(Lord) Neel in Promise City, IA. Bart attended schools in Colorado and Oregon and graduated from high school in 1931. Bart entered the U.S. Army on Jan. 9, 1943, and was honorably discharged on Feb. 13, 1946.

On Oct. 18, 1962, Bart married Mable Riecke at the Lutheran Church in Spencer. They made their home in Aurelia.

Bart farmed, was an appliance repairman, drove a gas truck, and was a school bus driver for many years. Bart was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Aurelia, the Grashoff-McManus American Legion Post #390, and a past member of the Aurelia Kiwanis. He loved to dance, play cards, fish, and golf.

He is survived by his wife, Mable of Aurelia; one son John and his wife Sharon Neel of Riverton, Wyoming, one daughter, Josephine Brouwer of Des Moines; three grandchildren, Brad and Sarah Neel and Jason Brouwer; and one brother John L. Neel of Riverton, Wyoming.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister-in-law, Elizabeth Neel.
