Memorial services for Vera C. Andersen,89, of Aurelia were held Thursday, February 1, 2001, at 1:30p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Aurelia with Pastor Jack Weida officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of the Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia.

Vera died Friday, January 26, 2001 at the Cherokee Villa Retirement Home in Cherokee where she had been a resident since September 14, 2000.

Vera Caroline Nordstrom was born May 8, 1911 in Diamond Township south of Aurelia, the daughter of Theodore and Edna(Olson)Nordstrom,Sr. She attended Diamond Township School and graduated from the Galva High School in 1928, then attended the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. Vera began teaching in Alta and later in Cherokee where she taught second grade, retiring after teaching for 22 years. On June 5, 1940, Vera married Oswald Andersen at the Methodist Church in Aurelia. Vera was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Aurelia, WSCS, Alta Chapter of PEO, the Nokomis Study Club of Alta, Embroidery Club and Birthday Club.

Preceding Vera in death were her parents, three sisters: Muriel Brickson, Faye Elder and Edna O'Neal, three brothers: Wendell Nordstrom, Theodore (Ted) Nordstrom, Jr. and Reitzell Nordstrom, and son-in-law, Charles Haskins.

Survivors include her husband Oswald of Aurelia, one son and his wife, Orlyn and Joan Andersen of Aurelia, two daughters, Carolyn and her husband Richard Mefferd of Gilmore City, IA, and Marilyn Haskins of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Nine Grandchildren: Jamie Mefferd, Troy Mefferd, Ryan Mefferd, Aaron Mefferd, Heather Andersen, Owen Andersen, Hilary Andersen, Lindsey Haskins and Kyle Haskins. Also surviving are one sister and her husband, Ann and Vincent Becker of Cherokee, sister-in-law, Lucille Nordstrom of Aurelia, and one brother-in-law, Gene Elder of Cherokee, and other relatives and friends.
