Funeral services for Leone Mummert,89,of Aurelia were held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 15, 1999, at the Congregational Church of Christ in Aurelia, with Lay Pastor Bruce Rapp officiating. Burial was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Aurelia. She died Sunday July,11,1999, at the Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in Cherokee.

Leone Mildred Burgess was born Octover 4, 1909, the daughter of Johnnie C. and Kitty Leone(Farr) Burgess, in Silver Township near Quimby. She attended country school and graduated from the Cherokee High School in 1927. On February 21, 1928, Leone married Burt Edward Mummert at the Baptist Church in Sioux City, IA. They farmed for many years until retiring in 1966 and moving into Aurelia.

Leone was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ and the Fellowship Circle, 4-H, for 24 years, FACC, and Birthday Club. She enjoyed tennis,golf,cards,fishing, music,and being outdoors.

Survivors include one daughter, Donna Jeanne, and her husband, James Heuer of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin; one son, Donald and his wife, Jeanette Mummert of Aurelia; ten grandchildren,Randy and wife,Vicki Newlon, Kent Newlon, Gloria Rasmussen, Blair Newlon, Eve and her husband, Darin Freeman, Deb and her husband Mike Estes, DeAnn Wodruff, Tam and her husband, Adam Bender, Ron and wife, Jan Mummert, and Doug and wife, Tamie Mummert; eleven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Burt, on July 24, 1983, infant brother Lewis James Burgess, one sister, Catherine Paulson and one brother-in-law, Leslie Paulson.
