Funeral services for 78 year old Merlin Resene of Aurelia were held on Tuesday, March 22, 1994 at the First United Methodist Church in Aurelia. Rev. Henrietta Klarenbeek officiated. Burial was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Aurelia. Merlin died in his home on Saturday, March 19, 1994 after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Merlin Dale Resene was born on July 22, 1915, at Cleghorn, Iowa, the son of Oscar and Edna Mortenson Resene. He graduated from the Cleghorn High School. Merlin farmed the family farm in Brooke Township before entering the U.S. Navy during WWII. He married Lorilla Whiting Anderson on August 17, 1948 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Merlin farmed in the Peterson and Aurelia areas aand owned and operated the Aurelia Body Shop and Vehicles for many years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Aurelia and was a member of the American Legion and the V.F.W.

Merlin is survived by his wife Lorilla, two sons: Dick Anderson and his wife Marvella of Branden, MN, Mike Resene of Aurelia, four daughters: Sandra Seeley and her husband Eldon of Creston, Ia, Sharon Lough of Spencer, Jan Calvert and her husband Don of Eagle Grove, IA, Wanda Woltman and her husband Herman of Cherokee and 25 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. One brother Lorrel Resene of Aurelia and many other relatives and friends.

Preceding Merlin in death were his parents, an infant brother Gaylord, a sister, Idale Ames, two sons: Ben and Bob Anderson, an infant granddaughter Cynthia Anderson and a grandson Danny Speed.

Local arrangements were under the direction of the Wharton-Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia.
