M. Bernice Eischen, 91, of Cherokee died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2007, at Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee, with the Rev. Eugene Murray officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery at Cherokee. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, with a 7 p.m. Scripture service, at Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee. Online condolences may be sent at www.greenwoodfuneral.com.

Bernice was born March 24, 1916, in Cherokee, to J. Edward and Pearl (Alexander) Pigott. She attended school at Immaculate Conception in Cherokee.

On Feb. 8, 1938, she married Freeman Eischen in Cherokee. He preceded her in death on Aug. 3, 1989. They farmed near Cherokee for many years. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Bernice loved to work on her farm, take care of her animals and spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include a daughter, Maxine Girardin of Raytown, Mo.; a son, Tom Eischen of Hollister, Mo.; brothers, Bill Pigott and his wife, June of Cherokee, and Leo Pigott and his wife, Nola of Hayward, Calif.; and granddaughters, Mary Ann McCormick and her husband, Bill and their son, Cameron of Lee Summit, Mo., Linda Lujan and her sons, Kevin and David of Raytown, Michelle Girardin of Raytown, Jackie Johnson and her husband, Jake and their son, Hunter of Marcus, Iowa, and Barbara Eischen of Jackson, Wyo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Paul Pigott; and a sister, Cecelia May.
