Peter Christian Johnson

Peter Christian Johnson, 61, of Cherokee, Iowa, died Friday, August 10, 2007 at his home, following an apparent heart attack.

Services will be held Tuesday August 14, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Cherokee, Iowa. Rev. Armand Bertrand will officiate. Burial will be at 4:00 P.M. Tuesday in the Evergreen Cemetery in Red Oak, Iowa. Visitation will be Monday from 9:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M., with the family present from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. at the Greenwood Funeral Home. Pete was born November 22, 1945 in Glendale, California to Howard and Beverly (Woodhall) Johnson. He attended school in White Bear Lake, Minnesota, graduating in 1963. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1964-1966, including one tour in Viet Nam.

Following his military service he returned to the Midwest and attended the University of Minnesota for 2 years. Pete transferred to the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington, where he graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering. Following his graduation, Pete moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota to work for Control Data Corporation.

On August 25, 1984 he married Deborah Benda in Red Oak, Iowa. They moved to Cherokee, Iowa in 1991 where Pete worked for Lundell Mfg. Later, Pete worked for OBECO Mfg. and finally Life Investors, also of Cherokee, Iowa. Pete had many interests that included his sons and their sporting activities, golfing, the outdoors, hunting, and his dogs.

Survivors include his wife, Deb; his sons; Christopher Johnson and Mark Johnson, of Cherokee; his mother, Beverly Johnson, of Hudson, Wisconsin; brothers and sisters, Bev Blanchard, and her husband, David, of Plymouth, Minnesota; Laurie Reed, of Columbia, California; Mark Johnson, and his wife, Julie, of Bloomington, Minnesota; Tracey Hawthorne, and her husband, Brent, of Roberts, Wisconsin; Kayce Shaeffer, and her husband, Ben, of Perrysburg, Ohio; Holly Johnson, of Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father
