Betty A. Weflen, 60, of Cleghorn, formerly of New London, Iowa, went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 6, 2007, following a short stay at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. with Pastors Dan Krause and Bob Blair officiating. Burial will be in Liberty Township Cemetery, north of Meriden, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Betty was born on Sept. 2, 1946, at Springfield, Minn. She graduated from high school in Fort Dodge, Iowa, and then received her medical aid training from Iowa Central Community College.

She was married to Robert W. Weflen on Dec. 31, 1967. Betty had worked at the Mental Health Institute in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, at Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge, Iowa, and at the Cherokee Mental Health Institute until she had to retire due to ill health. She had also worked at Carol’s Café in Cleghorn for a short time.

She had been a resident of Cleghorn, Iowa since 1994 and before this had lived in Larrabee for a short time and in New London, Iowa. She was affiliated with the Assembly of God.

Survivors include two daughters, Julie Farmer and her husband, Scott of Craig, Iowa and Amy Ruden and her special friend, Russell McHenry of Sioux City; a son, Randy Weflen and his wife, Cindy of Marcus, Iowa; eight grandchildren; two half-brothers; two half-sisters; also several nieces and nephews

She was preceded in death by her husband on Jan. 31, 2003; her mother, Dorothy Wilson Carr; and a half-brother, Wayne Carr.
