JAMES MATTHEW BORDERS

James Matthew Borders, 47, of Cherokee, Iowa, died Tuesday May 29, 2007 at the Mercy Medical Center, Sioux City, Iowa, following a sudden illness.

Services will be held Saturday at 10:30 AM. at the Greenwood Funeral Home, Cherokee, Iowa. Gregg Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Cherokee, Iowa. Visitation will be Friday from 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M at the funeral home. Military graveside honors will be conducted by V.F.W. L.A. James was born August 18, 1959 in San Francisco, California to John and Janet Borders. He attended school in California, where he graduated from high school. He entered the United States Marines and was stationed in Korea. Following his military service he came to Cherokee, Iowa, where he managed the Marcus Golf Course, worked for Russell’s Redi-Mix and Pioneer Seed near Aurelia, Iowa. On April 22, 1995 he married Connie Lussier in Reno, Nevada. James enjoyed computers, grilling outdoors, scuba diving, playing poker and spending time with his children.

Survivors include his wife, children Joshua Waterman, and his fiancé, Jamie Chase; Jessica Borders; and Kenneth Borders, all of Cherokee; his parents, Ken and Janet Borders, of Manteca, California; a brother, John Borders, Jr., of Omaha, Nebraska; a sister, Jennifer Gavin, of Fremont, California; 2 grandchildren, Alexis and Addyson and nieces, Kaitlyn, Lindsey, and Courtney.
