Frank D. Saxen, 73, of Cherokee passed away Friday, May 25, 2007, at Veterans Administration Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Services will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, with the Rev. Carolyn Hollar officiating. Burial will be in Sunset View Cemetery at Washta, Iowa, with military rites conducted. Visitation will be 1 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 2 to 3:30 p.m., at the funeral home.

Frank was born Sept. 11, 1933, at Holstein, Iowa, to Henry and Anna (Gehrke) Saxen. He attended Holstein Schools.

He was married to Betty Spotten in 1967. He had worked for Walnut Grove in Cherokee for several years and Wilson Foods Corp. in Cherokee for 18 years, retiring in 1986. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army. Frank had been a resident of Cherokee for many years. Prior to this, he had lived in Washta, Iowa, and was originally from Holstein.

He was a member of Washta United Methodist Church. Frank enjoyed fishing and boating.

Survivors include a son, Biffven Saxen of Spirit Lake, Iowa; three brothers, Raymond and Joyce Saxen, Wendell Saxen and Danny and Bonnie Saxen, all of Pierson, Iowa; a sister, Naim and her friend, Jim Manson of Pierson; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Edmund, Henry Jr., Harold, Lawrence and Robert Saxen.
