Paul R. Meylor, 84, of Le Mars passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2007, at his residence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. James Tigges officiating. Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Saturday in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cherokee, Iowa, with military rites conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars L.A. Wescott Post 2253. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Friday, with a parish rosary at 4 p.m., a Scriptural wake service at 7:30 p.m., a Third Degree Knights of Columbus rosary at 8 p.m. and a Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus chalice service, all at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Paul Raymond Meylor was born July 13, 1922, on the family farm near Marcus in Cherokee County, Iowa, the son of Ray and Mary (Cox) Meylor. He was raised in Cherokee County and graduated from Immaculate Conception Parochial High School in Cherokee, Iowa.

In 1942, he went to Alaska and worked on the Alcan Highway. He entered the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1943 and attended cadet pilot training school. At the end of World War II, he was honorably discharged and returned home to the Cherokee area and began his career raising livestock and farming.

He married Elizabeth Marie Ruhland on May 22, 1950, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church - Neptune in Lincoln Township. Following their marriage, the couple farmed for 50 years southeast of Cherokee. The couple moved to Le Mars in 2000.

He was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars and a former long time member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee. He was an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus Trinity Council 1466, a member of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus Garrigan Assembly in Sioux City and a member of the American Legion Wasmer Post 241. He also had served as a board member for the A.S.C. Office and had served on the board for the Cleghorn, Iowa, and Cherokee Elevators for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Betty of Le Mars; five children and their spouses, Dr. Dean and Jeanene Meylor of Greensboro, N.C., Dr. Cliff and Deb Meylor of Sioux City, Dr. Wayne and Kris Meylor of Le Mars, Dr. Lee and Laurie Meylor of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Mary and Steve Lundsgaard of Cherokee; a daughter-in-law, Kay Meylor of Cherokee; 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ann and her husband, John Hoomany of Boco Raton, Fla., Ginger Sitzmann of Le Mars and Dr. Ramona and her husband, Dr. Al Kennedy of Cherokee; a sister-in-law, Ann Meylor of Le Mars; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, James "Jamie" Meylor; a granddaughter, Kari Meylor; three brothers, John Dean in childhood, Dr. Don Meylor and Dr. R.J. Meylor; a sister, Mary Elaine Meylor; and a brother-in-law, Roman Sitzmann.

Pallbearers will be his sons, Dr. Dean Meylor, Dr. Cliff Meylor, Dr. Wayne Meylor, Dr. Lee Meylor, a son-in-law, Steve Lundsgaard and a grandson, Jonathan Meylor.
