Lyle Poppens, 51, of Marcus, formerly of Lennox, S.D., died Friday, May 11, 2007, near Cleghorn, Iowa from injuries suffered in an automobile/motorcycle accident.

Memorial services will be 1 p.m. today at Grace United Methodist Church in Marcus, with the Rev. Gary McDonough and Bob Blair officiating. His body was cremated. Additional services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Living Hope Presbyterian Church in Tea, S.D. Arrangements are under the direction of Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Lyle was born Aug. 23, 1955, in Sioux Falls, S.D., to Elmore and Tena (Javers) Poppens. He attended school in Lennox, graduating from high school in 1973.

In June 21, 1975, he married Sandra Hagen in Lennox. They made their home near Lennox, while he worked for Pioneer Seed Co., which was located near Tea, S.D. When the Pioneer plant moved to Cherokee, Iowa, in 1997, the couple moved to Marcus, where he lived and remained employed with Pioneer.

He enjoyed spending time fishing, boating, weekends at their cabin on Lake Poinsett, working outdoors and riding his motorcycling. He adored his granddaughter, Alexis.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Michael of Sheridan, Ore.; a daughter, Lisa of Des Moines; a brother and his wife, Larry and Audrey Poppens of Chancellor, S.D.; two sisters, Lorna and her husband, Oliver Boterman of Tea, S.D., and Linda Kidd of Canton, S.D.; a brother and his wife, Lloyd and Gloria Poppens of rural Chancellor; a granddaughter, Alexis Poppens and her mother, JoLynn Heinse of Anthon, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmore and Tena Poppens.
