Nancy A. Birch, 65, of rural Cleghorn passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2007, at Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee, Iowa, following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Cleghorn Presbyterian Church, with the Revs. Ray Kruger and Bob Blair officiating. There will be a family prayer service at 9:45 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Meriden Cemetery, Meriden, Iowa. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee.

Nancy was born Jan. 28, 1942, in Cherokee, to Roy and Lilas (Kinzel) Goodrich. She graduated from Cleghorn High School in 1960.

She was married to LaVerne Birch on June 16, 1962, in Cleghorn. Her home was on a farm north of Cleghorn and she had been a resident of the Cleghorn area all her life. She had worked at the Cherokee Mental Health Institute, Meriden-Cleghorn Schools as a secretary and was the drill team instructor at the school for 27 years.

She was a long time member of Cleghorn Presbyterian Church, the Friendship Guild and bridge clubs. She enjoyed the time spent with her grandchildren, spending winters in Texas, summers in Okoboji, puzzles and playing the piano and organ.

She is survived by her husband, LaVerne; two daughters, Lisa and her husband, Eric Johnson of Cleghorn and Melanie Rose of Omaha; and three grandchildren, Allison, Caitlin and Madison Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
