John George Todd, 84, of Quimby died Wednesday, May 2, 2007, at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D. following a lengthy illness.

The body was cremated. Private services will be at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Condolences may be sent online to www.greenwoodfuneral.com.

John was born Sept. 8, 1922, in Correctionville, Iowa, to Henry and Cassie (Adamson) Todd. He was educated in Correctionville. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, stationed in the Asian-Pacific Theater.

On Nov. 27, 1944, he married Alice Health in Dakota City. He enjoyed farming in Woodbury and Cherokee counties. He loved being on the farm every day of his life.

His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife; his children and their spouses, Douglas and Jane Todd of Valley Spring, S.D., and Dorothy "Dot" and Bob Carstens of Quimby; grandchildren, Todd Carstens, Jason Todd, Rob Carstens, Chad Todd, John Carstens and Amanda Todd; great-grandchildren, Justin, Courtney, Connor, Skyler and Ryder; seven brothers and sisters; and a special nephew, Roger Heath and his wife, Rosemary of Correctionville and their children, Deb and her husband, Jeff Lillifloren of Cherokee, Iowa, and Jan and her husband, Mark Castle of Billings, Mont.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and a sister.
