Roberta A. Kintigh, 90 of Cherokee, died on Saturday, April 21, 2007 at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 24, at 2 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Rev. Ray Hampton officiated. Burial was held in the Afton Cemetery, rural Cherokee.

Roberta was born Feb. 13, 1917 in Afton Township, Cherokee Co., to Forrest and Katherine (Doupe) Ware. She attended Afton Township County Schools, and graduated from Wilson High School in 1935. She was married to David Forrest Kintigh on February 20, 1937 in Cherokee. She and her husband lived on farms near Webb and Larrabee, Iowa; spent 4 years at Madison, South Dakota and was a long time Cherokee resident. She owned and operated Spruce Street Grocery for 4 years and worked at Cherokee Mental Health Institute for 23 years, retiring in April of 1979. Following her retirement, she took care of Afton Cemetery for 8 years. She enjoyed cooking and loved nothing more than working outside with her flowers and yard.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband David on July 2, 1966, a grandson Chad Schallau, sisters and brothers-in-law: Ruth & Carl Swanson, Marjorie & Clare Ducommun, and Lowell Peterson.

She is survived by three daughters and their spouses: Nancy & Parker Johnson of Groveland, Calif.; Cathy & Paul Cargin of Cleghorn,; Dayle & Mike Schallau of Mankato, Minn.; Grandchildren and their spouses: David & Julie Johnson; Beth & Miles Acker; Micki Cargin; Molly & Rex Brown; Chris & Katie Cargin; Melissa & Jeff Dee; Tony & Nikki Schallau; 15 great grandchildren; one sister Jean Peterson of Cherokee.
