Devota L. (Tipton) Kintigh

Devota Lorraine (Tipton) Kintigh, 91, of Geneseo, Ill., formerly of the Larrabee area, passed away on Thursday, April 5, 2007, at Hammond Henry Hospital Skilled Care Unit in Geneseo.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa, with the Rev. Ray Hampton officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Cemetery, Larrabee. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Wednesday at the funeral home.

Devota was born Sept. 27, 1915, in Delta, Iowa, the daughter of Harlan and Gertrude Tipton. She graduated from What Cheer Community High School and entered William Penn College in Oskaloosa, Iowa, at the age of 16. She obtained her bachelor of arts degree with a double major in math and home economics in 1936 and was valedictorian of her class.

She married Harry T. Kintigh of Larrabee, Iowa on May 25, 1940, at Sigourney, Iowa. She taught in Beaman and Larrabee, Iowa schools prior to her marriage.

She was a current member of First United Methodist Church in Geneseo, a 50-year member of the Rebekah Lodge, taught adult education and sewing classes, a former 4-H Club leader and functioned as a custom seamstress for many years. She enjoyed quilting and other sewing hobbies, while giving tirelessly to her many volunteer causes.

Survivors include a son, Richard W. (Mary) Kintigh of Geneseo, Ill.; grandsons, David (Stacie) of Moline, Ill., Jeffrey of Chicago, Ill. and Richard H. of Chicago; a great-grandson, Michael of Moline; sisters, Geraldine Holroyd of Monona, Iowa and Bernita Morris of Sigourney, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1977; and brothers, Keith and Ronald Tipton of Ollie, Iowa.

Memorials may be made to the Larrabee United Methodist Church.
