Lawrence Brady, 81, of Marcus passed away Thursday, March 22, 2007, at his home.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus, with the Rev. Eugene Murray officiating. Burial will be in Holy Name Catholic Cemetery at Marcus. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today, with a 4 p.m. rosary service led by the Knights of Columbus and a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m., at the church. There will also be one hour of visitation prior to services Monday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Earnest-Rohde Funeral Home in Marcus.

Raymond Lawrence Brady was born on June 5, 1925, near Marcus, to John and Anna Curtin Brady. He attended country school near his home and later graduated from Holy Name School in 1944. Following his education Lawrence assisted his family with farming.

On April 23, 1947, Lawrence and Helen List were united in marriage at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus. The couple made their home on a farm northwest of Marcus. They farmed there for 40 years while raising eight children. Lawrence and Helen moved to Marcus in 1987. Even though Lawrence moved to town, he would return to the farm to help out. He planted corn for 63 consecutive years.

Lawrence was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church. He was also a charter member of the Remsen Knights of Columbus and served on the board of directors of Farmers Coop Elevator in Marcus. Along with grain farming and raising livestock, he enjoyed golfing, dancing and playing cards. Most of all, Lawrence cherished the time he spent with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 59 years and 11 months, Helen of Marcus; his children, Lois and Dan Buck of Cherokee, Iowa, Joan and Dean Wright of Valrico, Fla., Sandy and Guy Pick of Remsen, Iowa, Tom and Karen Brady of Iowa City, Iowa, Jerry and Jan Brady of Marcus, Mike and Rose Brady of Marcus, and Janet and Rick McDaniel of Muscatine, Iowa; 20 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Gene and Sherry Brady of Storm Lake, Iowa; and a sister-in-law, Pat Brady of Marcus.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Rita Mary Brady; a grandson, Travis Wright; and a brother, Phil Brady.
