Bernice M. Hanson, 86, of Quimby passed away Thursday, March 15, 2007, at Country Side Estates in Cherokee, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Quimby United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Carolyn Hollar officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. Monday at the church. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 7:30 p.m., at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee.

Bernice was born Feb. 6, 1921, in Orient, Iowa, to Scottie U. and Bertha (James) Eatinger. She graduated from Central High School in Sioux City in 1938.

She was married to Manfred D. Hanson on March 29, 1941, at her parents' home in Sioux City. She had worked for the USDA in the ASCS office in Cherokee from 1960 until retiring on April 3, 1985. She had lived in the Quimby area since 1949 and in Sioux City for 20 years.

She was a member of Quimby United Methodist Church, the Ruth Circle, United Methodist Women, the Quimby American Legion Auxiliary and NARFE. She enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren, watching sports and was a dedicated Chicago Cubs fan.

She is survived by a daughter and her husband, Marilyn and Larry Nelson of Quimby; two sons and their wives, Michael and Mary Ann Hanson of Washta, Iowa, and Marty and Marcia Hanson of Strawberry Point, Iowa; a daughter-in-law, Betty Hanson of Charleston, S.C.; nine grandchildren, Larry D. and Angela Nelson, Brad and Dedra Nelson, Dawn Nelson, Ron Allen, Neresa and John Lee, Paul Hanson, Ann and Jerry Carter, Heidi Hanson and Jennifer Hanson; seven great-grandchildren, Kris Nelson, Dakota, Stetson and Hunter Nelson, Aimee and Faith Lee and Brody Hanson; two sisters-in-law, Mildred Hanson Stevenson of Cherokee and Dorothy Hanson of Sergeant Bluff; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Manfred in 1959; a son, Mervin Hanson in 1997; an infant daughter, Marion Marie Hanson; a brother and his wife, Donald and Helen Eatinger; and a brother, Leo Eatinger.
