Leslie O. "Les" Gregg, 95, of rural Cherokee passed away Sunday, March 18, 2007, at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, Iowa, following a brief illness.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Cedar Cemetery, rural Larrabee, Iowa, with the Rev. Ray Kruger officiating. Visitation will be 1 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee.

Les was born Jan. 30, 1912, in Cherokee. He attended Larrabee Consolidated Schools.

He was married to Alice Cave on Aug. 31, 1933, in Cherokee. He was a lifelong farmer, worked as a supervisor at the Cherokee Mental Health in his younger years. He and his wife owned and operated Gregg's Hilltop Nursing Home for many years.

He loved to raise livestock on his farm, was an avid bowler and enjoyed playing cards, fishing and traveling.

He is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Donna and Bernie Robinson of Newell, Iowa, and Darlene and Loren Woltman of Cherokee; 14 grandchildren, Doug and Tracy Simons of Alta, Iowa, Dian and Mike Hallmark of New Braunfels, Texas, Craig and Sandy Simons of Carrollton, Mo., Kaylynn Simons of Phoenix, Ariz., Dean and Lois Magnussen of Dubois, Wyo., Christina and Tom Hare of Peterson, Iowa, Dawn and John Miller of Albert City, Iowa, Duane and Cindy Magnussen of Newell, Iowa, Lisa and Dick Reinert of Marcus, Iowa, Brenda and Dean West of Peterson, Iowa, Kevin and Wendy Magnussen of Moville, Iowa, Dana and Lisa Woltman of Cherokee, Brian and Janet Woltman of Le Mars, Iowa, and Kyle and Mindy Woltman of Lisbon, Iowa; 28 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Alice on Dec. 25, 1986; a daughter, Delores Simons in 1996; four brothers, Raymond, William, Francis and Glen Gregg; two sisters-in-law, Lela Brownmiller Clark and Arlene Raymond; and a brother-in-law, Clarence Cave.
