Orville Kenneth Larson, 88, a longtime Des Moines resident died February 22, 2007 at the Sunset Knoll Care and Rehabilitation Center in Aurelia, Iowa. Services will be held Monday, February 26, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. at the Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia. Burial will be in the Scandinavian Cemetery at Alta, Iowa. Visitation will be held Sunday at the Redig Funeral Home from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M.

Orville was born October 3, 1918 to George Henry and Lydia Josephine (Lydell) Larson in Aurelia, Iowa. He married Allie Dryman of Denton Valley, Texas, on May 8, 1943 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. They had one child, a daughter, Esther Jean.

Orville served in the U.S. Army 14th Armored Division during World War II. He fought in the Siegfried Line Campaign in Germany and was awarded the Bronze Star for his service.

He graduated from the American Institute of Business in Des Moines in 1948 with a degree in business. He worked for the State of Iowa Department of Revenue from 1957 to 2000.

He was christened on April 20, 1920 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Alta, Iowa, and attended Grandview Lutheran Church in Des Moines for 50 years.

He enjoyed discussing politics and current events, reading, telling stories and speaking Swedish.

Preceding Orville in death were his parents, his wife Allie on January 11, 1985, two brothers, Virgil and Earl Larson, half-brother Ernest Elvin Johnson and half-sister Margaret Kolpin.

He is survived by his daughter Esther Jean of Dallas, Texas, sister-in-law Anna Larson of Aurelia, nephews LaVerne Larson and Dennis Kolpin and nieces Darlene Simmons, Betty Reed, and Anita Mackay.

Memorials can be made to Grandview Lutheran Church in Des Moines, IA.
